This recipe comes from Kristen, my daughter in law. It’s a very special one that brings back memories of her Nana who loved sharing her baking recipes with her family. This one continues to be a traditional Christmas treat that Kristen and her Mom make together each year.
When I received this recipe I noticed that there was no baking time. Kristen smiled and said “none of Nana’s recipes had the time”. They were told to bake them until they were done. Now that’s a confident baker!
This recipe is quickly put together with simple ingredients.
Ingredients:
1 cup butter softened
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups flour
1/8 tsp salt
1 cup sliced/chopped nuts
1/2 cup candied red cherries
1/2 cup candied green cherries
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350F.
Cream butter and brown sugar together. Add vanilla, continue to mix.
Stir in flour and salt. Add nuts and cherries mixing well.
Divide the dough into two portion and form each into a log.
Place in the fridge overnight.
Slice each log into about 1/4 inch slices. Place on parchment lined cookie sheet and bake for 8 minutes bottom of cookie will be lightly browned.
Remove from the oven let cool on the cookie tray for a couple of minutes then place cookies on a cooling rack to continue cooking.
These sound like what my Mom used to make, so I was excited to try, but there is no quantity for flour? Please update ingredient list.
So sorry Sheila! I have updated, the flour amount is 2 1/2 cups. Thanks for letting me know.
