Ingredients
4 Tbsp olive oil
2 medium onions
3 carrots chopped
2 1/2 lbs. ground beef no
5 Tbsp tomato paste
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 cup beef stock
1 tsp beef bouillon
Mashed potato topping:
1 lb. potatoes peeled and chopped
Salt
Pepper
4 Tbsp room temperature butter
Directions:
Start by making the mashed potatoes so that it has time to cool before topping on ground beef mixture.
Place potatoes in saucepan fill with cold water.
Bring to a boil and add about 3 tsp of salt, reduce heat and simmer until tender 15-20 minutes.
Reserve about 3/4 of cooking liquid. Drain potatoes and return to the pan.
Mash potatoes with butter, adding reserved liquid a tablespoon at a time until a smooth consistency is achieved.
Set aside.
Filling:
Pour Olive oil in a frying pan add carrots and cook for about 2 minutes. Add onions and garlic and continue to cook uncovered stirring until vegetables are tender. Add beef, cook until no longer pink about 4-5 minutes.
Stir in tomato paste, cinnamon and 1 tsp each of salt and pepper. Stir in stock and beef bouillion and simmer until mixture slightly thickens about 5-6 minutes.
Heat broiler. Spread potatoes over the beef mixture and broil until golden brown watching closely should be about 2-4 minutes.

Make these in individual serving dishes or in one pan.
